'progressive businesses' = stay skeptical ...

This article was fascinating because it explains in more depth what the companies should be about versus what they are about. Starting with the article name, “stay skeptical,” everyone is skeptical by the end of it. It tells us that businesses should fulfill a larger social purpose. However, most businesses are concerned about filling their pockets instead.

Christian O Christiansen brings a great example by mentioning United Nations: “international organisations including the United Nations have taken over a view of corporations as being institutions that can be channelled in the direction of social purposes.” (Christiansen) As many of us might know, the primary purpose of the UN is to bring peace around the world and solve many more prominent issues that threaten that. Businesses should cooperate with the UN and achieve the “Sustainable Development Goals of 2015” (Christiansen).

Furthermore, businesses should be more critical in reducing poverty and development. They should consider the common good before the private good, the same as stakeholders before the shareholders. More prominent corporations, like the UN, can implement sustainable environmental and climate policies, but if they need an extended push, they need strong environmental organizations.
